Timeline expectations for Flutter app development — from simple MVPs to complex platforms — with honest estimates and what affects delivery speed.

Flutter's speed advantage over native development is real, but Flutter apps still take time to build well. Here are realistic timelines.

Timeline by Complexity

App TypeTimeline
Simple Flutter app (5-8 screens, Firebase)6 to 10 weeks
Medium app (both platforms, payments, maps)10 to 16 weeks
Complex platform (marketplace, real-time)16 to 24 weeks
Enterprise app (complex business logic)24+ weeks

These include design, development, testing, and the full development process submission.

What Affects Flutter Development Speed

Requirement clarity — Vague requirements lead to rework. A project with clear, detailed requirements can move 30 to 50 percent faster than one where requirements are defined during development.

Third-party integrations — Payment gateways, maps, VoIP calling, SMS OTP — each adds 1 to 2 weeks depending on the integration's complexity.

Apple App Store review — Apple reviews typically take 1 to 3 days but can take 1 to 2 weeks if they request changes. Plan for this.

Client feedback speed — Projects where clients review and approve deliverables within 24 to 48 hours move significantly faster than those where feedback takes a week.

Backend complexity — Firebase backends are faster to build than custom Node.js or Python backends. If you need a custom backend, add 4 to 8 weeks.

How Flutter Saves Time vs Native

Building for both iOS and Android natively requires two separate development efforts. With Flutter, one developer handles both. This can reduce a 20-week native project to 12 to 14 weeks in Flutter.

I built NestSpace — a rental and roommate-finding platform — from scratch, solo, and shipped it on both Google Play and the App Store. At Rooted Tech, I build Flutter apps, Firebase backends, and Next.js platforms for startups and businesses worldwide. Everything I write here comes from real experience building real products.
